A note to those interested in furthering the field of Applied Sociology
Nobody loves pseudo-academic self-aggrandizement more than I do.
I think my audience is relatively split between two types of people:
One group of people watch my videos primarily for my epic commentary and ostensibly good-faith approach to synthesizing a genuinely productive middle ground between political extremes.
The other group of people are most excited for the deeper and more philosophical ideas that I put forward under the label of “applied sociology.”
While there is definitely overlap between the two, the second group is probably smaller for the simple fact that there are not that many people who are interested in or capable of wrestling with very abstract philosophical ideas.
If you subscribe to this Substack, my guess is there’s a good chance you might be in the second group. If so, I have some quick thoughts to share.
Making use of the collective intelligence
After I posted my Archetypal Memetics video, I received at least a few emails with some pretty good insights about how my theory could be refined and improved.
While I don’t have a specific plan right now, I am open to the possibility of creating some sort of space dedicated to discussing the more complex abstract philosophical ideas underlying applied sociology.
For example, I had a very interesting conversation about the synthesis of psychoanalysis & quantum physics with Sean from the YouTube channel Deep Noetics.
This conversation is likely inaccessible to most given how schizo-autistic it is, but there’s probably a handful of you who will find it pretty engaging. I know I did.
My point is, I could see a lot of value of creating a loose network of fellow aspiring sociologists to concretize and refine the foundations of this brand new pseudo academic field.
The biggest obstacle to this is the fact that I want less than nothing to do with managing a community. I had a Discord a while back, and it’s just far too much of a headache to have to deal with socially-stunted troublemakers ruining the dynamic of the space.
So, I am not promising any action at the moment. I’m more or less just putting a feeler out there to gauge interest so I can eventually start a scam university called the PF Jung Institute of Applied Sociology.
Or something like that. We’ll see.
I'd sign up to the PF Jung Institute of Applied Sociology. I think a PF lead Team to help flesh out a website could be good - to develop a 'Think Tank' style research page - built out with relevant book links, graphs, ideas etc. Similar to how Jonathan Pageau has 'The Symbolic World' with a team adding Articles etc... https://www.thesymbolicworld.com/content-categories/articles
I do not know if I would join a “PF Jung academic” unless it was a scam, but a community is always welcoming, scam or not.
